Read the Note to understand how different aspects of the right may be used to tackle the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity and pollution
This Information Note – jointly published by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – helps explain what the right to a healthy environment (R2HE) means by outlining key elements and contours of the right. The Note also traces the historical and political origins of the R2HE, examines why the right matters and what benefits it brings and sheds light on the role of different stakeholders in helping to advance realization of the R2HE.
